Fast Radiative Shocks in Dense Media. III. Properties of the Emission
نویسنده
چکیده
Evolution of fast, radiative shocks in high density medium is presented. Ionizing spectra and approximate broad band light curves of the shocked gas are calculated. Emergent shock spectra, as seen by a distant observer, are obtained from photoionization models. The emergent spectra have a power-law shape Fν ∝ ν −α with mean spectral index α ∼ 0.6 − 1.0 in the energy range 0.01 − 10 keV, and have a high-energy cutoff corresponding to the original shock velocity. It is shown that the models exhibit promising features that may account for some photometric and spectral properties of Active Galactic Nuclei.

Panoramic Views of the Cygnus Loop
We present a complete atlas of the Cygnus Loop supernova remnant in the light of [O III] (λ5007), Hα, and [S II] (λλ6717, 6731). We include low-resolution (25) global maps and smaller fields at 6 resolution from observations using the Prime Focus Corrector on the 0.8-m telescope at McDonald Observatory. Despite its shell-like appearance, the Cygnus Loop is not a current example of a Sedov-Taylo...
متن کاملHigh-Ionization Emission in Metal-Deficient Blue Compact Dwarf Galaxies
Primordial stars are expected to be very massive and hot, producing copious amounts of hard ionizing radiation. The best place to study hard ionizing radiation in the local universe is in very metal-deficient Blue Compact Dwarf (BCD) galaxies. We have carried out a MMT spectroscopic search for [Ne v] λ3426 (ionization potential of 7.1 Ryd), [Fe v] λ4227 (ionization potential of 4 Ryd) and He ii...
متن کاملThe Mappings Iii Library of Fast Radiative Shock Models
We present a new library of fully-radiative shock models calculated with the MAPPINGS iii shock and photoionization code. The library consists of grids of models with shock velocities in the range vs=100-1000 km s −1 and magnetic parameters B/ √ n of 10-10 μG cm for five different atomic abundance sets, and for a pre-shock density of 1.0 cm. Additionally, Solar abundance model grids have been c...
متن کاملSimulating cosmic rays in clusters of galaxies: I. effects on the Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect and the X-ray emission
We performed high-resolution simulations of a sample of 14 galaxy clusters that span a mass range from 5 × 1013h−1 M⊙ to 2 × 1015h−1 M⊙ to study the effects of cosmic rays (CRs) on thermal cluster observables such as X-ray emission and the Sunyaev-Zel’dovich effect. We analyse the CR effects on the intra-cluster medium while simultaneously taking into account the cluster’s dynamical state as we...
متن کاملTheory of radiative shocks in optically thick media
The theory of radiative shocks in optically thick media is discussed, using exact relations for the fluid dynamics quantities. A quantitative, semianalytic approach to the radiation transport is presented here, based on the observation that the mean intensity is essentially constant through the cooling layer. This permits a self-consistent three-layer solution, in which the temperature upstream...
